Augusta Domestic Violence Lawyers

Domestic violence is a serious criminal matter that must be handled with immediate attention and care. If you are a victim of domestic violence, we can assist you in issuing a temporary protection order (TPO) to protect you and especially protect the safety of any children. We also help those who have been falsely accused of committing domestic abuse and provide effective defense representation against any charges.

At Plunkett, Hamilton, Manton & Graves, LLP , our Augusta domestic violence lawyers help victims and families of domestic violence, by providing compassionate, effective and quality representation. Remember, you and your children should not have to live with physical violence. Nor should you have to live with false allegations of hurting your spouse or child.

Whether you are a victim of domestic violence or a victim of false accusations, we are here to protect you. Contact us immediately to discuss your domestic violence case. Our firm has offices in both Augusta and Evans, Georgia.

Temporary Protection Order (TPO)

Under Georgia’s Family Violence Act, a victim of domestic violence can seek a temporary protection order (TPO) against their alleged abuser. TPOs are court-ordered restraining orders that protect a victim from their abuser. The abuser is forbidden from attempting to contact you in any way. If you seek a TPO you can also request the judge for a temporary custody or child support arrangement.

If a TPO is granted by the court, there will be a hearing within 30 days in front of a judge. The judge will hear arguments from both parties and determine whether or not to extend the protection order. A TPO can be extended up to 12 months.

Criminal Defense Representation Against False Accusations

If you have been charged with a domestic violence crime such as domestic assault, battery, felony battery, stalking or trespassing, your situation is even more serious. You not only face jail time but also a negative impact on any child custody arrangements you are part of. Our firm provides both criminal defense representation as well as family law services that can help your case.

Unfortunately, there are those situations where a spouse or former spouse may be purposely making false accusations due to a bitter divorce or child custody dispute. We are here to make sure you do not fall victim to such unjust accusations and that your relationship with your child is not negatively impacted.
